I always admired the way my ‘Gram’ dressed.  Everyday she looked put-together and elegant, but always stuck to basics.  She loved khaki and navy ‘slacks’ as she called them, or what I usually refer to as a trouser cropped at the ankle!  She was influenced by 40’s and 60’s fashion I guess and loved a tailored look (she hated when I wore destructed jeans lol).  She never left the house in a t-shirt, but instead always opted for a starched button-down.  Today I find myself looking for these classic, timeless pieces and less for trendy items that you won’t want to wear after a time or two.  So take a note from my grandmother’s style book and don’t try too hard.  When in doubt, get back to basics for a polished look that will take you through the years.

I love this look and wore it to the office this week.  The pants and button-down are easy separates to pair with anything and I love the play on the monocromatic trend (blue on blue).  Then I added the army green jacket to add a little masculine edge to what I felt was a very femme look, and added a bright bag and fun printed heels to spice it up.  I stayed away from a statement necklace since I had a lot going on already and went for something more simple.  It felt very daytime to me.

P.S. did I mention Gram wanted to have me committed when I told her I spent $350 on a pair of sunnies!  Haaa had to throw that out there!
