FITTED FOR FALL

I am loving gray tones and elevated neutrals this fall.

Here’s a fun gray on gray look.  This new light gray wool sweater is one of my faves that I got when I was in Europe – I am obsessed with the cut of it, especially around the neckline.  I always look for classic pieces with a modern twist and this one is exactly that.  I paired it with these great coated grayish-blue jeans for a perfect fall daytime look.  The black leather booties and bag are the perfect accessories to finish off the look – and you can’t do without the pop of color on the lip to add a little sass.  Shop it all below:

EDITRIX PICKS: MINI SKIRTS

Who doesn’t love a good mini skirt?!  I know I do!  Even though I am a total shorty, my legs are the longest part of my body so it’s nice to show off your best assets every now and then!  Mini skirts work for every height though, but my quick tip is if you are short like me then mid-thigh length is appropriate and if you are taller you might want to go for something just a bit longer.  Regardless, you don’t want to be confused with a streetwalker so make sure the length is age appropriate and location appropriate (at the workplace stick to the finger rule and longer and wear tights with booties or closed-toe heels).  This fall there are so many chic options on the market from plaid, to hair and leather, so get to shopping and let me know your pick in the comments!

WATCH: ELSA FROM FROZEN HALLOWEEN MAKEUP

Have you decided what you are going to be for Halloween yet?  If you are like me, you wait until the last minute, so that is where I come in!  I always opt for an easy costume (i.e. I hate spending a ton of money and looking cheesy) and love going for a look that requires more makeup that it does costume-making skills.  This year I know little girls and ladies alike might be thinking of Elsa from Frozen, because let’s face it, it was the most popular movie across all age groups from the last 10 years AND she is gorgeous!  Here is a great makeup tutorial to look just like Elsa, and don’t worry as much about the costume – just throw on something blue from your closet or go to the fabric store and drape some blue across a dress you already have.  The most important piece is the wig and don’t stress about that either; mine is just a blonde wig I found for $15 that I doctored a bit (got rid of the middle part and braids and used bobby pins to pile hair on top of the wig) – not an “Elsa” wig because those were already sold out.  Let me know what you think in the comments and shop the makeup I used below:

In order of application:  MAC Pro Longwear SPF 20 Compact Foundation, NC15 // MAC Powder Blush, Peony Petal // MAC Cream Colour Base, Luna // MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Stubborn Brown // MAC Eye Shadow, Vibrant Grape // MAC Eye Shadow, Beautiful Iris // MAC Eye Shadow, Orange Matte // MAC Eye Shadow, Crystal Avalanche // MAC Pigment, Violet // MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil, Shock Value // MAC Lipstick, Pink Nouveau // MAC Lipglass, Girl About Town

I love taking a chic and playful piece of clothing, like a mini dress, and making it appropriate for the office.  It is all about styling the said item in the most sophisticated way you can.  Closed toe heels, a classic long trench coat and structured bag make this dress go from the office to drinks in a flash.  If it’s already cold where you are, pair a sheath dress like this with sheer black tights and booties for a standout fall look.  I can get away with the no tights look for another month or so because apparently in LA it’s forever going to be 80 degrees – crazy!  Shop my look below:

Every once and a while I come across a new designer that I love.  In this case, that designer happens to be Hunter Bell.  Though I never watched Fashion Star on NBC, which she was on, I learned about her at a shoot I did with Louis Roe last fall.  I started following her on Instagram and really loved her designs.  It just so happens we met at a mutual friend’s house in New York this past spring and totally hit it off.  We have seen each other a few times since and she gets prettier and sweeter every time; the latter is hard to come by in the uppity fashion world (at least in my opinion).  We are  both also still southern girls at heart so I think we bonded over that right away and the rest as they say, is history.  Anyway, this is the first dress of hers I am wearing on the blog and I can’t wait to see what she does next.  She has a way of mixing feminine, flirty and edgy vibes into her pieces with a perfect balance.  I love the cool shape of this dress, the way it drapes and then the flirty ruffles and prettiness of the marbled/watercolor print.  Shop the whole look below and remember, as my mom always told me, a little bit of kindness goes a long way and you guessed it – it’s free!

This look seems pretty basic at first glance, but the real trick to looking effortlessly chic is pairing together small details that make one standout look.  I did that here with the embellished booties, the shirt tied at the waist and the majorly distressed denim paired with the coziest card sweater.  Black and white together are a classic combo, but I promise they will make heads turn look whether you are headed to the office or happy hour.  The pop of color with the red lip really is the cherry on top.  Shop the entire look below:
