Being born and raised a southern girl in Louisville I sometimes crave a slower pace of life and that good ole’ southern hospitality!  Louisville never fails to disappoint in those areas and if you are visiting be sure to show off your brightly colored clothing to highlight your bright personality – everyone loves color there!  Side note, I was recently planning a trip to Myrtle Beach and I was looking for recs on where to go and where to eat and wanted another blogger to help me out, but couldn’t find anything!  I started thinking I need to do my own “Favorites” list for LA (find LA HERE and HERE) and Louisville so here goes the Louisville edition (these are purely my personal opinions, so take it as seriously as you want to, but if you’re headed to the Bluegrass state and need some ideas, I hope these recs will help):

Best Pizza in Louisville:  Bearno’s (it’s a local chain) – I love the Mama Bearnos pizza, which is the works and I get it every time I come home.

Best Restaurants in Louisville:  Harvest in Nulu – great atmosphere and great menu, plus in a location where you can walk to shops, bars and others restaurants.  Old school Fine Dining try Jack Fry’s – the shrimp and grits is awesome! For southern/American food + beers head to Craft House in Saint Matthews. My favorite BBQ is Frankfort Abe Beer Depot – everything is great! Oh and I love my KY Mexican food – a great hole in the wall is El Caporel and there is also Los Aztecas.

Best Bar/Drinks:  Garage Bar is the best outdoor bar – great people watching, cheap drinks and good late-night eats, not to mention close to other bars and restaurants. I love the Bar in 21C Hotel and Omni Hotel for a nicer, more quiet night with friends.

Best Shopping and Walking:  Bardstown Rd in the Highlands area has tons of good restaurants and cute shops, and Lexington Rd in the St Matthews area (near the old Vogue Theater – Clodhoppers and Homemade Pie and Ice Cream are a great place to start). NULU is also awesome

Best Park in Louisville:  Cherokee Park (in the Highlands neighborhood) – beautiful scenery, people watching, walking and biking paths
