EDITRIX PICKS: MOTHER’S DAY GIFTS

It’s time again to celebrate one of the most important women in our lives – mom!  I have to dedicate this post to my mom because I don’t know what I would do without her.  I loved her and thought we were so close before I had baby Smith, but now it has brought us even closer and I have such new found respect for my mom.  She has really been my light in some of the hardest sleep-deprived days recently.

A little about my mom and I:  I grew up in Kentucky with my mom and two sisters, who are twins.  My mom was a single mom (my dad had joint custody) and worked more than a full-time job.  She is like many other moms around the world that no matter what, got out of bed everyday to take care of her family.  She was like a super hero to me.  I was always a mommy’s girl and still am.  Whenever I am sick, have a problem, have exciting news, or just want to chat about nothing, my mom is who I want to be there.  She has been my biggest supporter since the day I was born and always made me shoot for the stars and told me I could be whatever I wanted to be, while still imparting how important it was to be a hard worker, kind and loving.  I moved to Los Angeles after college, so we had been living across the country from each other for almost the past 10 years.  It was brutal not having my mom around all of the time and there were days when I thought I should just move home to be with her, but I knew I had to stick it out in LA where the jobs I wanted were and my now husband was.

Fast forward to this past fall and my mom is finally living in California!  All it took was for me to have a baby!  My mom is such an amazing mother and grandmother that she left her job of 30 years, her home she lived in her whole life (she was raised there and then so was I), and all of her friends and family to come be with us in LA.  It was not an easy decision, and I am sure on some days she is still wondering whether she made the right choice, but she did it to help me and to be near her grandson.  It also helps that both of my sisters are now in LA – thank goodness!  I couldn’t be more grateful to have a mom like her, but more importantly such an amazing role model, woman, friend, and great person all around.  Thank you mom for everything you have done and will continue to do.  I know I couldn’t and even more importantly, wouldn’t want to do this without you!  Love you!
