FASHION OF VERSAILLES

17th century fashion trends

Believe it or not, fashion was just as relevant in the 17th century as it is today, and in fact, this year we are seeing a lot of trends from that time period resurface!

Have you guys seen the new show Versailles on Ovation TV?  I just started watching it and love it.  There’s history, drama, and major fashion!  I got so inspired watching it over the weekend, that I decided to create a post with pieces that are not only hot for fall, but completely inspired by the trends of the 17th century.  It actually blew my mind that things like voluminous skirts, chokers, pearls, ruffles, high-necklines, off-the-shoulder, velvet, lace and floral jacquard prints were all huge trends in the 17th century in France and that King Louis XIV, who built Versaille and who the show is based on, helped make France the leading fashion influence of the century.

I came up with my own inspired look by rocking a textured floral voluminous midi skirt with a faux turtle necklace and then adding a pearl and velvet choker over it.  What do you think?!  You can shop the entire looks below.

You guys make sure to tune in to see all of the amazingness that is the new show Versailles on Saturdays at 10pm ET/PT on Ovation!
