I don’t know about you, but I love a good designer or super chic vintage find!  Not only is it probably one of a kind if it’s old, but a lot of the prints and colors are fantastic. READ ON FOR TIPS AND HOW TO GET TICKETS TO THIS WEEKEND’S VINTAGE EVENT IN LA!

I am generally not a fan of sifting through a bunch of not-so-good pieces to find the diamond in the rough, which is why I love vintage expos!  I recently went to an event in LA called A Current Affair and it was amazingly curated with only the best quality stuff and featured designers like Chanel, Givenchy and Prada among the no-name fantastic items to buy (I left with a vintage fur coat that I am still obsessed with).  There is another A Current Affair event coming up this Saturday in LA (details here) so I thought I would interview the vintage experts on how they find the duds and what we should all be looking for!  Meet A Current Affair Founders, Joey and Richard and read below for their vintage insights!

Q:  What are the top 3 vintage stores?

A:  The top vintage shops in LA are Scout, Resurrection, and Bustown Modern- all on Melrose

Q:  Where is the best place to find designer duds?

A:  Honestly, our show has the best assortment and collection of designer and non-designer wearable vintage from over 50 vendors.

Q:  Where can you find the best deals?

A:  Outside of LA. If you’re going out of town and have the time I would suggest hitting up the local vintage shops since prices are significantly lower where there is less demand for killer vintage. The other great thing about shopping out of town is that people in other parts of the country aren’t looking for the same things.

Q:  What is a Current Affair?

A:  It’s a pop-up vintage show that brings together the best vintage shops and private dealers from all over the country, but it’s also a social gathering with elements like an open bar, KCRW DJ Marion Hodges, and an exhibit curated by stylist Shirley Kurata. It’s also a source for designers, stylists, and costume designers. We regularly see designers like Mara Hoffman, Trina Turk, Hedi Slimane, and others looking for inspiration for their collections.

Q:  A lot of people get overwhelmed when digging through vintage finds, any advice or something we should keep an eye out for?

A:  Good fabric and construction- you can spot it a mile away and once you train your eye to edit out everything else shopping is much easier.

Q:  What is the coolest item you have ever found through thrift or vintage shopping?

A:  One of my favorite finds was a rare Issey Miyake burlap bag that is worn over the shoulder but drapes down the side of the body. It’s in the book of Issey Miyake photographed by Irving Penn.
